Carmel's vascular specialists were the first in Israel to save a patient's life by implanting an aortic stent graft. The Lady Davis Carmel Medical Center has become proficient in a broad spectrum of sub-specialties related to public health. The Pediatrics Department has an advanced Prenatal Intensive Care Unit and a Cystic Fibrosis Unit. The CF unit, the biggest of its kind in the north, treats children and their families confronting this devastating disease with understanding and medical expertise. Carmel is Israel's national coordination center for early detection of breast and colon cancer. The center provides support for patients through counseling and consultations. Currently, the Center serves a community with high birth rates and large immigrant population.
